Examples
Six kinds of handwriting, before and after
Choose a page to see its photo and the text HandToText returned for it.
1940s-style letter in cursive
Fountain-pen cursive on folded, aged paper; every word came back as written, with the line breaks kept.
Grandmother's recipe card
Blue ballpoint on a lined card with a coffee ring and a butter stain; each ingredient came back on its own line.
Biology lecture notes
Print handwriting in a spiral notebook; the headings, the three points and the boxed exam reminder all came back.
Diary entry dated 1962
Small cursive on a lined diary page; the date and the entry came back with the page's own line breaks.
Delivery order form
A printed form filled in by hand in block capitals; each answer came back after its printed label.
Sticky-note to-do list
Marker on a sticky note; all four items came back, one per line.
These six pages were generated with an AI image model for this demo; they are not customer pages. The text for each is HandToText's unedited output from running that page through the tool on November 4, 2026.
How it works
-

Add your pages
Choose photos or scans of handwritten pages, or a PDF, from your phone or computer. Then press Transcribe.
-

Check and edit the text
Each page comes back as text you can edit. A word that can't be read is marked [illegible], and an unsure reading looks like [Margaret?].
-
Download or copy
Download a Word file with each page on a new page, or a plain text file, or copy all the text at once.
Bring the whole stack
Add up to 500 pages at a time. A PDF is split into its pages, you check each one beside its photo, and the Word file starts each page on a new page.
Try your first 3 pages freePricing
Your first 3 pages are free. After that, choose a pack. Each photo or PDF page counts as one page, and a page we fail to transcribe is not counted.
One-time payment, no subscription. Pages never expire. Paddle shows the final total, including any sales tax or VAT, before you pay. Refunds on request within 14 days of purchase.
What happens to your pages
Each page image goes from your browser to our server and then to OpenAI, which reads the handwriting, with OpenAI's response storage turned off. HandToText keeps no images and no transcripts. OpenAI's API terms say API data is not used for training by default and may be kept for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring. HandToText sets no cookies: it keeps a random browser id in this browser's local storage, and its server stores page counts, purchases and visit statistics. Cloudflare runs the automatic human check and Paddle runs the checkout, each under its own privacy policy.
Questions
Does it work on cursive and old handwriting?
Yes, but very hard pages come back with gaps. A word it can't read is marked [illegible], and an unsure reading ends with a question mark, like [Margaret?], so you can see where to check. Try your hardest pages with the 3 free ones before you buy.
What about pages in other languages?
The text comes back in the page's own language, with its spelling, punctuation and line breaks as written. It is never translated, corrected or summarized.
Do you keep my pages or the text?
No. HandToText keeps no page images and no transcripts, so download or copy your text before you close or reload this page. We do store a random browser id, page counts, purchases and visit statistics. OpenAI, which reads the pages, may keep API data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring under its terms.
Is it a subscription? Can I get a refund?
No. You pay once for each pack through Paddle, and its pages never expire. For a refund, write to support@handtotext.app within 14 days of purchase.
Can I use my pages on another device?
Yes. Open HandToText on the other device, choose Restore purchases at the top and enter the email you used at checkout. We email a 6-digit code to that address. Once you enter it, both browsers share the same purchased pages.
